Blacker Hall farm shop has celebrated its 15th anniversary with a specially-brewed birthday beer.
The family-run businesses has teamed up with Ossett Brewery to produce Ploughman’s Gold.
The exclusive bottled beer went on sale last weekend to mark 15 years of the popular Calder Grove business.
Blacker Hall managing director Edward Garthwaite gives the inside track on the beer on the bottle’s label.
He says: “I have been delighted to work with Ossett Brewery to develop this unique beer.
“It is perfect with a traditional ploughman’s lunch of bread and cheese, also a delicious match with any meat, pork pie and chutney.”
The label also gives a potted history of the business.
Blacker Hall farm shop was opened in 1999 by the Garthwaite family, who have farmed in the area for five generations. It had been a dream of John Garthwaite (Edward’s dad) to sell locally-reared meat of consistent quality from the family farm direct to the people of Yorkshire.
Andy Pollard, of Ossett Brewery, said: “Ploughman’s Gold is a fitting collaboration between Ossett Brewery and Blacker Hall Farm Shop. We are keen to work with them as we are both family-owned business with real success stories over the past 15 years.
“It’s a refreshing mellow pale ale, easy drinking but with plenty of floral and citrus hop aroma.”
