AN inquest has been opened into the death of a man whose body was found in the River Calder.
Andrew Wraith, 47, was found in the water close to The Hepworth Wakefield gallery on Wednesday, October 24.
The hearing, at Wakefield Coroners on Tuesday, was told that Mr Wraith lived on a canal boat moored at Thornes Wharf.
Coroners officer Anthony Lancaster said Mr Wraith had last made contact with his wife, who lived in Halifax, at 8.45pm on Friday, October 19.
They arranged to meet up at the weekend.
Mr Lancaster said: “No further contact was made which was unusual.
“Eventually by Monday, October 22, Mr Wraith was reported by his wife to the police as a missing person and a major search was instigated.”
He said police had ruled out any suspicious circumstances. The inquest was adjourned pending further enquiries.
