A school, nursery and library have had to close after a water pipe burst in Stanley this morning.
Stanley St Peter’s School and its nursery has closed for the day after staff arrived to find Lake Lock Road was waterlogged.
Stanley Library also said it would be closed today because of the burst main.
And Sam Carney, landlady at the Travellers pub, said parts of the village had been left without water.
Twitter user Charlotte Baker tweeted to say Stanley was “under water” and that the area outside St Peter’s looked “like a river”.
Yorkshire Water confirmed that a water main had burst at about midnight.
Spokesman Matt Thompson said he hoped it would be repaired by 1.30pm.
He added: “A number of properties have been left without water, but bottled water has been left at Community Centre and Health Centre.”
