A free week-long programme of events to celebrate business and entrepreneurship will be staged in the city next month.
The Express is media partner of Wakefield Business Week, which will run from June 2-6, featuring a high-profile conference and trade exhibition, tours of leading businesses and networking events.
Students from Wakefield College have been drafted in to help with the conference, which will be held at the Cedar Court Hotel, on Denby Dale Road, on Wednesday, June 4.
They will gain experience of planning a large-scale event, which is being organised by the Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and recruitment firm Hillrich.
Andrew Choi, the chamber’s executive director, said: “We’re really excited about this venture with Wakefield College students in helping them gain valuable work experience at the biggest business event in the Wakefield district.”
John Bird, founder of the Big Issue, will be among guest speakers at the conference.
The conference will include a State of the District panel of business leaders, chaired by Helen Oldham, managing director of Johnston Press Yorkshire. Mark Bradley, editor of the Wakefield Express, will also hold a question and answer session at the conference on how businesses can get themselves into the headlines.
Wakefield Business Week will feature more than 30 seminars hosted by business experts. A series of Meet the Leader events will look behind the scenes at prominent organisations. Law firm Chadwick Lawrence is principal partner of Wakefield Business Week, which is also being supported by Wakefield Enterprise Partnership, Fantastic Media and Wakefield Council.
