Transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin officially opened the newly revamped Wakefield Westgate railway station this morning (Monday).

The station, which has a new £8.6m building, also received a blessing from the Bishop of Wakefield Rt Rev Stephen Platten and railway chaplain Rev Dr Stephen Sorby.

Mr McLoughlin said: “The new station is a fantastic asset for Wakefield. It is bright, vibrant and offers a gateway to the city.”
