Wakefield Works, the campaign to connect young people with local businesses, got underway this week.

But for those who missed the opportunity to gain valuable work experience with local employers there’s still time to register for the Apprenticeships Jobs Fair taking place on Thursday.

Co-ordinated by Wakefield Apprenticeship Hub, part of Wakefield Council, the jobs fair will take place between 11am and 3pm at The Trinity Management Suite, on the second floor of Trinity Walk.

As part of the fair young people aged 16-25 will be able to meet employers directly, while also browsing live apprenticeships that exist within the district.

Also businesses developing apprenticeships during the coming months will also share more details about their plans, offering advice and guidance on how to apply.

Sectors, where apprenticeships are available include construction, finance, hospitality and business administration.

Coun Denise Jeffery, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Skills said: “Further study is a great way to get extra qualifications and you can both study and earn some money while doing an apprenticeship.

“The opportunities available are so diverse, it’s not until you look that you might find something which appeals to you. Our chief executive, Joanne Roney, started her career as an apprentice. She’s proof you never know where an apprenticeship might lead.

“At the Apprenticeship Fair you can meet potential employers and chat to them in more detail about what they’re looking for. All of the information available should help young people figure out what they like and whether or not an apprenticeship is for them.”

Candidates can register for the Wakefield Works Apprenticeship Jobs Fair by visiting www.wakefieldworks.co.uk/jobs-event/ alternatively those interested can simply turn up on the day.
