Flamboyant florist Carl Wilde has agreed to be our presenter for the Wakefield District Retail Awards 2015.

Mr Wilde – a Castleford lad whose dad used to run a fruit and veg merchant – burst onto our television screens as the celebrity florist on This Morning, with his easy approach and personality soon making him a firm favourite.

He designed Princess Margaret’s garden on the Caribbean island of Mustique and now spends his time hosting afternoon teas and champagne lunches as well as giving floral demonstrations at his Birstall home, along with partner John Price, who has taken on the task of catering the events.

And now Carl will present the awards ceremony at Unity Works on Saturday, May 16.

The scheme – which is sponsored by Ridings Shopping Centre, Wakefield City Centre Partnership and Trinity Walk – will celebrate the best of what Wakefield has to offer as a shopping destination.

The nominations will be judged by Coun Peter Box, leader of Wakefield Council, former apprentice finalist Claire Young and Express editor Hannah Thaxter, with a public vote for the employee of the year category.

If you want to pick up an award, all you need to do is put forward your business for as many of the categories as you think relevant.

You can also nominate someone else’s shop or employees. Just fill in the nomination form and return it to Gemma Jimmison, Wakefield Express, First Floor Bullring House, 23 Northgate, Wakefield, WF1 3BJ.

Alternatively, visit www.jpeventsnorth.co.uk/wakefield/events/retail-awards-2015 and download the form.

The closing date for nominations is Friday, March 27.
