THE colourful and diverse history of Africa was brought to life during a celebration in the city.
Minority groups came together to share their cultural differences during an Afrocentric event in Agbrigg on Saturday.
The festival took place at St Catherine’s Church and Community Centre on Doncaster Road as part of Black History Month.
Centre manager Lisa Grant said: “The day was really fantastic and it went incredibly well. We were really encouraged with the feedback we were given about the day and are now buzzing with ideas for the event for next year.
“We are really keen that this will be an annual event which will become more and more successful each year with more and more groups in Wakefield taking part both in the planning process and on the day itself.”
The day included art exhibitions and workshops, fashion parades, drumming and a “market place” for African businesses to display their products and services.
