THE rain failed to dampen spirits as the celebrations to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee got underway.
At Wrenthorpe Primary School pupils moved their street party indoors to the school hall yesterday.
Headteacher Jane Coyle said: “It was a day to remember and I hope they will look back when they are 40 or 50 years old and proudly say what they were doing in 2012.”
At Snapethorpe School, in Lupset, 200 red, white and blue balloons were released into the sky.
Pupils at Gawthorpe Academy dressed up for a Proms in the Playground event.
The children had a picnic in the playground while being entertained by brass band, orchestra and drummers.
Staff and children at Sharlston Community School started their celebrations on Wednesday with a street party held in the playground.
In Outwood the Knit and Stitch group decorated the library with homemade bunting for their afternoon tea party.
