AS Frances Wood gets set to sing for her place in the final of BBC One’s The Voice tomorrow night, she can count on support from her home city.

Posters and banners have sprung up across Wakefield, including on the school gates to Cathedral Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA).

Frances has been studying at the college for the past two years and if she makes it to the final will have to sit two A-level exams days before.

Director of performing arts Claire Nicholson said Frances had been balancing college work well while being in the competition and hoped to show tomorrow’s performance on a big screen at the college.

She said: “Will.i.am described her as a chameleon and I think that is true as she is good in a whole range of situations and can act, sing and dance.

“She has worked really hard and how she comes across on TV is actually how she is. “We are proud of her and will all be watching it this weekend.”

Frances has appeared in college productions of Sleeping Beauty and an 1980s show.
