FLANSHAW URC: The service at Flanshaw United Reformed Church at 10.45am on Sunday will be led by Ruth Miles and will include communion. The Wednesday Group will meet between 10am and noon.

LINDALE METHODISTS: The morning service at Lindale Methodist Church on Sunday will be led by the Rev Ruth Harris, vicar of St Anne’s Church, Wrenthorpe, and will include communion. The evening service will be led by the Rev Jennifer Gill of Townville, Castleford. The Rock Club will resume on Thursday at 3.45pm following the summer break. The Thursday Club at 7pm will be a games evening. Tickets are available for the church’s anniversary concert on Saturday, October 1 at 3pm when The Palm Court Quintet and Singers will be presentong a programme of popular music. WOMENS’ INSTITUTE: The Kirkhamgate Womens’ Institute will meet at Lindale Methodist Church on Tuesday at 7.30pm and new members will be made most welcome.

KIRKHAMGATE VILLAGE HALL: I have received an email from a resident in the village expressing thanks to the village hall committee for the recent refurbishment work that has been undertaken to the hall. This buidling is a vital part of village life and the community is grateful to committee members for the hard work they undertake to ensure this facility is maintained in good order for the benefit of everyone.

KIRKHAMGATE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION: There will be a coffee morning at the village hall on Wednesday, September 14 at 10am. This is an opportunity to view the changes that have been made to the building and to have a chat with other local people. Zumba fitness is coming to the hall on Thursdays at 6pm. All welcome.

BALNE LANE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION: There will be an open evening next Wednesday, September 14, between 6pm and 7pm to enable local residents to find out what is taking place at the centre.

ST PAUL’S CHURCH: This Sunday’s service will be a most unusual one because it will be an animal blessing service. The service will begin at 9.30am and will be led by the Rev Gerry Sykes who will also be preaching. It will also be a parade service for all the uniform groups and the Sunday Club. Everyone is welcome to attend and bring their pets but in the event of anyone bringing scary animals/creatures will they please advise a church member in advance. There will be a communion service at 6pm.

BRUNCH/LUNCH ST PAUL’S VICARAGE: Thank you to everyone who supported and helped to promote the event last Saturday which raised over £700 towards the cost of repairing the church roof after the lead was stolen and the proposed re-ordering of the East Room which will serve as a cafe for graveyard visitors, band/group practices, changing room for productions in church and sleep-over accommodation for uniform groups. Following on from this, a new Roofers Group has been formed to create ideas for further fundraising towards the enormous cost needed to achieve the funding of the above projects and this group met for the first time last week.

HOSPICE: The local volunteer fundraising group will be holding a Quiz Night at St Anne’s church hall, Wrenthorpe on Monday, September 12. Tickets are £4 each and a light supper is included. A maximum of six people are allowed in each team and own drinks and glasses are permitted. Contact Ian on 01924 364868 for tickets and further information.

SCOTTISH COUNTRY DANCING: Just a further reminder that the Wakefield Caledonian Society is holding a free taster session to anyone who would like to have a go at Scottish Country Dancing.
