KETTLETHORPE GALA: The gala takes place this Saturday, July 30 from 11am to 4pm. Lots of entertainment, numerous stalls and a number of organisations will be present to ensure a great day.
CHARITY FUN DAY: Gaynor Powell and family would like to thank everybody for all the help and support given to raise money on the funday for the British Heart Foundation. KETTLETHORPE TENANTS’ AND RESIDENTS’: The next official meeting will be on Wednesday, September 14 at 6.30pm in the back room of the community centre. However a quick meeting will be held on Monday, August 8 at 6.30pm to discuss the gala and any other outstanding issues.
SUMMER DRAMA WORKSHOPS: There will be drama workshops at Pennine Community, Chapelthorpe, in August for children aged eight and over, and interested adults. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with Faceless Theatre Company on a really exciting project called ‘The Birds!’. There is no charge and transport can be arranged. HISTORICAL WEEKEND: Hall Green Community Association holds a historical weekend in August. The exhibition, titled Crigglestone, another look back, will contain over 500 old photographs and memorabilia encompassing the whole of the parish. The exhibition will run from Friday, August 5 to Tuesday, August 9 at Hall Green Community Centre on Painthorpe Lane, from 2pm to 7pm. Admission will be £3. Refreshments will be available. KETTLETHORPE AGED WELFARE: At last week’s meeting, it was confirmed that following the success of the last excursion to Skipton, another longer trip would be provided for members in August. Members were saddened to learn of the death of a much-loved, long standing member, Dorothy Shaw and many members promised to attend her funeral. They are also sad to announce the death of Mrs Dot Smith a stalwart member for many years, who will be greatly missed by her many friends at the club who would like to offer sincere condolences to her family.
HALL GREEN UNITED: Hall Green United lost at home to Wakefield FC last week and then beat Yorkshire Amateurs on the following Wednesday 1-0. Both matches were pre-season friendlies which continue this week playing Walnut FC at home on Saturday 30th July with a 2.30pm kick off.

CRIGGLESTONE CRICKET: This Saturday Crigglestone First XI is away at Birchencliffe CC in the Huddersfield Central Cricket League with a 2pm start.
NEWMILLERDAM FESTIVAL: Despite the threatening weather over 30 people enjoyed a walk around the village green Newmillerdam and a chainsaw carving demonstration by the council’s forestry team as part of Newmillerdam Festival. Other recent improvements on the green have been the installation of information boards at each entrance and footpath improvements to encourage visitors to see the splendid wild flowers meadows and the mosaic of habits throughout.
CONCERT: A concert in church last Sunday raised £75 for church funds when Laura Pick, 19, performed for an appreciative audience. Hilary Sharp gave a vote of thanks.
CHURCH IN WEST BRETTON: This Sunday at 10.30am Preacher for morning worship will be Beryl Holt from Clayton West.
SINGING FOR PLEASURE: Next Monday at 7.30pm there will be a meeting of the Singing for Pleasure group in church.
BRETTON SCHOOL: Last Thursday children at Bretton School entertained invited guests from the village to lunch, followed by performances by the key stage 1 and foundation stage children. They were excellent and Val Briel thanked the children and staff for their efforts on behalf of the villagers.
COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTRE: Kettlethorpe High School Community Learning Centre is now offering employment skills sessions. This is a free drop-in service open to all adults every Monday from 1pm-4pm. Now enrolling for courses starting September including Spanish, ECDL, drawing and painting, introduction to IT and many more.
