COAL MINE: Members of the public along with parish councillors recently met Bill Birch, mining engineer, to discuss a programme of development such as a mine to the south of the village. Plans are now nearing submission to the local authority for consultation. Such a development is a long way off becoming established, and the project will have to complete several environmental and public impact reports. Public consultations will then have to follow. The prospective owners gave re-assurances to the council that there will be no plans to undermine any areas under housing, and that mining methods would have the least effect on subsidence.
