SHOW: As an allotmenteer in my third season, second in truth as the first year was mainly site clearance, I can fully appreciate the hard work and commitment required for successful fruit and vegetable production. When I think of ‘www’ I am not thinking of browsing the internet, but of weather, weeds and water and how my vegetables are standing up to all nature throws at it! I am nonetheless pleased with any success I have, but have a long way to go to achieve the standard of many of the fruit and veg on display at this year’s Horbury and District Allotment and Gardens Association annual flower and vegetable show. Held at Horbury WMC last Saturday, the show displayed some fantastic examples in all classes and was well-attended by the public.

HORBURY SHOW: Rotarian John Falkner, chairman of the organising committee of the Horbury Show has revealed that the 2011 show was to be the best ever. Mr Faulkner said: “We could not raise such an amount without the generosity of our sponsors, the support of loyal stallholders, and particularly the people of Horbury and Ossett area who turn out to make a superb family day of it every year.
