AUTUMN FAIR: St James’ Church, Denby Dale Road, Thornes, holds its autumn fair tomorrow from 10am to noon. There will be stalls including cakes, jams, chutneys, fruit, and vegetables. Tea and coffee will also be served.

PLAY CLUB: A play club for babies and toddlers and their carers is held at St James’ Church, Denby Dale Road, every Tuesday morning at 9.30am-11.30am. Sessions cost £1.

PILATES CLASS: Pilates classes are being held at Studio One, Diamond Studios, Thornes Moor Road, on Saturdays at 10.30am-11.30am and Wednesdays at 11am-11.45am. For further details, contact Denise on 01924 430037 or 07918 645222.

ADULT EDUCATION AT ST GEORGE’S: There are still places available for courses at St George’s Centre, Broadway, in business administration, computers, photoshop and floristry. Two new courses have also started – dancing in wheelchairs, and a free work club to help people find employment. For more information, call Lesley on 330263.

OLD THORNESIANS AFC: Last Saturday the club’s firsts entertained and beat Bramley Juniors OB 1-0, scorer Jimmy Taylor. The thirds travelled to Middleton Park Reserves and won 1-3 with Lee Tintor scoring two and a cracking 30-yarder by new recruit, John Appleton. The fourths suffered a 7-0 defeat away at Bramley Juniors OB IV. Tomorrow, the firsts opponents are Bainbridge at home, the reserves and fourths travel to play Norristhorpe and Wheelwright (now based at Thornhill Cricket and Bowls Club) respectively. All players to meet at St Michael’s Cricket Club at 1pm prompt.

WEST WAKEFIELD METHODIST CHURCH: The church celebrates its 18th anniversary on Sunday when the preacher at 10am will be Rev Tony Walton. Following coffee after the service there will be a presentation by Outwood Video Club and lunch. Members of the Church will be taking the service at Wakefield Hospice at 2.30pm. The preacher at 6pm will be Rev Henry Dubois of Kippax. Messy church for families resumes on Tuesday at 3.30pm. The Christian endeavour meets at 7.30pm when the speaker is Mr P Walls. On Wednesday the Women’s Fellowship has its annual meeting at 2.30pm.
