PHOENIX COMMUNITY CENTRE: The second phase of refurbishmenat is now complete. On Mondays New Phoenix Youth Club 6pm-8pm for eight to 13-year-olds; on Tuesdays toddler group 9.15am-11am and karate 7.30pm-9pm; Slimming World sessions on Wednesdays 7pm-8pm; Zumba 7pm-8pm on Thursdays; on Fridays karate 7.30pm-9pm; on Saturdays Happiways dancing 9am-1pm and WADSAD (sports group for young people with disabilities), Batley Road Playgroup hold sessions 8.30am-3.30pm Mondays to Fridays. ST PAUL’S CHURCH: This Sunday the service will start at 11am and will be led by the Rev Gerry Sykes, who will also be preaching.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION: Last Sunday was a very special day for Clifford Yates, who is a member of Lindale Methodist Church. After the morning service members of Clifford’s family and some of his many friends joined with the church’s congregation in helping him celebrate his 90th birthday by partaking of a specially-prepared lunch, complete with birthday cake. A wonderful occasion for a special person.

LINDALE METHODISTS: This weekend the Kirkhamgate Scarecrow Festival is taking place and the church will be providing refreshments and book stall from 11.30am to 4pm. The harvest festival service at 10.30am on Sunday will be led by Margaret Padgett and will take the form of all-age worship. The evening service at 6pm will be led by Sandra Oldroyd. On Tuesday the village book club will meet at 7.30pm and on Thursday KFC (Kirkhamgate Family Church) will meet at 5pm. Next Friday, September 23 there will be a harvest supper and quiz night at 7pm.

FLANSHAW URC: There will be a coffee morning at Flanshaw United Reformed Church, Flanshaw Lane, tomorrow at 10.30am. The service on Sunday morning will be led by Mr Andy Amoss. The Wednesday Group will meet from 10.30am to noon.

KIRKHAMGATE SCARECROW FESTIVAL: Look out for odd-looking characters in Kirkhamgate tomorrow as the village hosts its second Scarecrow Festival. Trail maps and refreshments are available from Lindale Methodist Church and the village hall on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Winners will be announced at 4pm on Sunday.

KIRKHAMGATE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: The next meeting will take this coming Tuesday at 7.30pm at Lindale Methodist Church. The speaker is an agent for Hotter Shoes and there will also be items for sale.
