ST PAUL’S CHURCH: This Sunday is Advent Sunday, the beginning of the church year, and is the start of the build-up to Christmas. The service begins at 9.30am and will be led by the Rev Gerry Sykes and the Rev Meuryn Walker, one of whom will be preaching. This year the church will be open for the first three Saturdays in December for coffee from 10am onwards.
BATLEY ROAD PLAYGROUP: The group will be holding its Christmas Fair tomorrow between 2pm and 5pm at the Phoenix Centre. Santa will be in his grotto and there will be various stalls and refreshments. Friends and families are all welcome.
PHOENIX CENTRE: The centre would like to invite all members of the community to their Annual General Meeting which will be held on Saturday, December 2 at 4.30pm. There will be a presentation on the development of the building. New ideas will be welcome to maximise the usage of the building for the benefit of everyone in Alverthorpe. Refreshments will be available.
CAROL SINGING: The Kirkhamgate Community Association has organised the annual carol singing around the village for Monday, December 12. Please meet at the village hall at 6.30pm. The Silcoates School band will accompany the singing and the collection will be donated to the Forget-Me-Not-Trust which is about to open a children’s hospice to serve Wakefield, Calderdale and Kirklees.
LINDALE METHODISTS: The morning service at Lindale Methodist Church on Sunday will be led by the Rev Tony Jones and will include communion. There will be no evening service at Lindale.
CHRISTMAS TREE FESTIVAL: This will be held at Lindale Methodist Church on Friday to Sunday, December 2 to 4. The church will be open on all three days for viewing and the serving of refreshments. Further details will be given nearer the time but the church is grateful to Warburtons and Coca Cola for their kind and generous donations of items for the refreshments.
FLANSHAW URC: There will be a coffee morning at Flanshaw United Reformed Church tomorrow between 10.30am and 11.30am. The service at 10.45am on Sunday will be led by Mrs Thelma Crossley. The Wednesday Group will meet on November 30 between 10.30am and 12noon.
KIRKHAMGATE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION: West Yorkshire Police will be holding a public information evening in the village hall on Brandy Carr Road on Tuesday at 7.15pm. Discussion will be focused on the proposed development plans for the Carr Gate site which may very well have an impact on residents of Kirkhamgate and Brandy Carr Road.
HORTICARE: There will be a coffee morning and Christmas Fair at Lindale Nurseries, Batley Road, Kirkhamgate on Saturday, December 3 between 10am and 12noon. Christmas trees, plants and holly wreaths will be on sale. A raffle will be held and home produce will also be on sale.
CHRISTMAS FAIR: Kirkhamgate Primary School will be holding a Christmas Fair on Saturday, December 3 at 11am. There will be a large variety of stalls and a raffle will be held. The school choir will be serenading visitors and there will be a visit from Father Christmas.
