REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY: On Remembrance Sunday, November 13, Members of Crigglestone Parish Council will lay wreaths at the war memorials at Newmillerdam and Crigglestone. They will attend a short service at Newmillerdam and join the Remembrance Day service at St James’ Church, Chapelthorpe.

CRIGGLESTONE METHODIST CHURCH: On Sunday, November 20, a Remember a Life service will be held at 10.45am. Anyone who wishes to remember relatives or friends, who have died recently or in the past, is invited to attend. Rev Andrew Stead will lead the service, which will be followed by coffee. At the Fellowship meeting on Thursday, November 17, the speaker will be Sgt Jonathan Day of the community policing team. Coffee is served from 10.30am. The meeting begins at 11am and ends by noon. 

TASTE AND SEE: Preparations are in hand for this year’s Advent programme at St James’. Sessions will be held every Monday at St James’, Chapelthorpe, at 7.30pm and begins on Monday, November 28 with Touch and See, with Rev Alan Shaw, Monday, December 5 with Come and See, with Rev Canon Ian Gaskell, Monday, December 12 at with Enabling Christ with Rev Canon Roger Cressey.

ANNUAL MEETING: Newmillerdam Community and Conservation Association would like to give notice of its annual meeting on Tuesday, November 29 at 7.30pm at the St Pierre Hotel on Barnsley Road.

PARISH COUNCIL: The November meeting of West Bretton Parish Council will be held in the village hall next Monday at 7.30pm. Residents are cordially invited to attend and to put their concerns to the Council during the allotted agenda item.

OVER 50S CLUB: Last Wednesday members of Bretton Over 50s Club met in the village hall for their monthly social afternoon. Details were given for the forthcoming outing to Burton Agnes and the date for the Robin Hood pantomime at Bradford was agreed. Raffle prize winners were Norma Hateley and June Waring.

GREENER GALS: There are still some tickets available for the Greener Gals concert to be given at the Church in West Bretton on Saturday, November 19 at 7.30pm, For tickets and details contact Leonard Bartle on 01924 830220.

CHURCH IN WEST BRETTON: Rev David Hall, circuit superintendent, presided over communion at the church last Sunday morning. Lessons were read by Jennifer McKinlay and Hilary Sharp. Sidesperson was Ian McKinlay and Jennifer McKinlay was steward. Peter Bowers was organist. Church flowers were arranged by Lena Nichols. This Sunday is Remembrance Sunday and Canon Stephen Kelly will conduct morning worship in church at 10.15am and will also conduct the Service of Remembrance at the war memorial at 11am.

BOWLS PRESENTATION: The final day for names to be given for the supper at the West Bretton Bowling Club’s Bowls presentation on November 25, is Monday, November 21. Names to the secretary please on 01924 830220.
