SPANISH LESSONS: Spanish lessons for children are beginning on January 20 at Waterside Cafe, Newmillerdam. Children will learn through fun, song and games. Classes are just £20 for five half-hour sessions and are as follows: Every Friday, ages three to five from 4pm to 4.30pm, ages six to 10 from 4.40pm to 5.10pm and ages 11 to14 from 5.20pm to 5.50pm. YOGA CLASSES: Yoga classes will restart at Crigglestone Village Institute, High Street, Crigglestone, on Thursday, January 5 from 7.30pm to 9pm and Monday, January 9 from 6pm to 7.30pm, and 7.45pm to 9.15pm.

FAMILY SERVICE: The first family service of the new year took place at St James’ Church, Chapelthorpe, on Sunday. The service was led by Rev Canon Ian Gaskell and had an Olympic theme. The congregation took part in a faith relay. Lee Hill read the lesson and Casper and Gabriel Critchlow helped in reflection of faith in the new year. The next family service at St James will be on Sunday, February 5 when the theme will be The Light Shines.

  CHRISTINGLE: At total of £582 was collected at the Christingle service at St James’ Church, Chapelthorpe, on Christmas Eve. A huge thank you to all those who attended this ever-popular service, as well as all those who supported the work of the Children’s Society by their generosity.

  EPIPHANY PARTY: St James’ Church Sunday school will be holding its Epiphany party next Sunday morning. The parish eucharist will be at 10.30am and baptisms will take place at 12.15pm.
