NOSTELL: Tomorrow’s fixtures are as follows for Nostell MWFC. The first team are away against Parkgate, meet at 12.30pm for a 3pm kick off. The reserves are at home against Woodhouse Hill, meet at 12.45pm for a 2pm kick off. The third team have an away fixture against Old Bank WMC, meet at 12.15pm for a 2pm kick off. On Sunday, January 8 Nostell Ladies are at home in the Sheffield Cup against Dearne and District Ladies, kicking off at 1pm. During the afternoon Wakefield Ladies FC will play at Nostell against Middlesbrough Ladies FC, kick off 2pm. On Monday, January 9 the U19 side are away to Frickley Athletic, meet at 6pm for a kick off at 7.45pm.

COPPERS LAKE: There are no further plans by Wakefield Council to remove silt from the lake due to cost, however some silt has already been moved against the headwall, which has been disposed of behind the lake. The lake has now been given reservoir status which means that the local authority will ensure the integrity of the headwall and guarantee regular statutory inspections and maintenance.

BAND: Crofton Silver Band played carols in some parts of the village on Christmas morning and by doing so collected £330 for Wakefield Hospice. Thanks to everyone for their support.

COUGARS: Crofton Cougars ARLFC host Westgate Wolves tomorrow in the semi-final of the Brian McDermott Trophy, kicking off at 2pm.

RUNNING REPORT: David and I enjoyed a short stay in London over Christmas, in which he managed a number of short runs around the Canary Wharf area where our hotel was situated. It took him a little time to find his bearings, but then he realised that we were staying virtually on the London Marathon route which David ran on a number of occasions, long before most of the buildings in this impressive setting were built.

SPORTS: Crofton Sports AFC have two matches tomorrow. The first team are away against Garforth WMC, and the second team are away against Smallville Athletic. Meet at the Weavers Green at 12.30pm for kick offs at 2pm.

FRIENDS OF HAW PARK: There will be an illustrated talk on butterflies found in Haw Park Wood, on Tuesday, January 10 at 6.30pm. Roy Bedford will be the speaker starting at 6.30pm at the Waterton Park Discovery Centre. Free admission. For more information telephone Pauline Rylance on 01924 252847.

GARDEN WASTE: There will be no collections of garden waste in Crofton until Wednesday, March 21.

ALLOTMENT RENTS: Crofton allotment holders need to be reminded that rents will be collected at Crofton Parish Centre on Saturday, January 21 at 10am to noon. Although in the past year there has been some small increases in running costs, the parish council has however waived any increase in charges for 2012, but charges could be increased in 2013.

TOTS N BABES: The group resumes its meetings on Monday, January 9 at Shay Lane Primary School starting at 9.30am.

CROFTON WMC: Top class vocalist Adam Le Feuvre will be appearing at the club tomorrow evening.

KEEP FIT: A six-week course including exercise and relaxation is open to adults of any age and begins at Crofton Parish Church on Wednesday, January 11 from 7pm until 8pm. Bring along a mat or towel.

MOTHERS: Crofton Mothers’ Club resumes its meetings at the community centre on Thursday, January 12 with a new year gathering. Please take along a savoury or dessert dish, cutlery, crockery and a wine glass.

FOR YOUR DIARY: The National Blood Service will be visiting Crofton on Monday, March 12 for the collection of blood. Times of sessions will be in this column nearer the date.

COUNCIL SURGERIES: There will be a council surgery this morning in the Parish Council Centre starting at 10.30am to 11.15am but no surgery in Crofton Library tomorrow morning.
