SERVICE: Children from Horbury Bridge School will be taking part in the Horbury Bridge community Remembrance service which takes place at the war memorial in Reid Park this morning at 11am. There will be a short 10-minute service which the children will contribute to with a song and prayers.

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING: Horbury Bridge School are holding a Christmas shopping event on Friday, November 11 from 5pm to 8pm. There will be lots of gift stalls including toys, gifts and foods.

DANCE: A ballroom, Latin and sequence dance is to be held at Primrose Hall on Saturday, November 12 from 8pm to 11pm. This is following the success of the previous dance which was held in October. It will again be hosted by Paul and Jean Durham who are experienced dance teachers and hosts. If you enjoy dancing at any level and think it should also be fun, please join us. CONCERT: On Thursday, November 17, Horbury WMC holds a charity night in aid of the Tumour Research Society and a local Wakefield man who has been diagnosed with a terminal tumour. Appearing on the night is Billy Pearce plus supporting artist. Doors open at 7pm and tickets cost £10 available from the club.

CRAFTS, ARTS & CAROLS: St Mary’s Church, Horbury Junction, is the venue on Saturday, November 26 for a craft fair selling gifts and toys. There will also be an art exhibition, Yorkshire Horns (brass quintet) and Horbury Primary School Choir from 2pm. Refreshments will be served all day in the parish hall. Admission is 50p, children free.

FAIR: Horbury Methodist Church holds a Christmas Fair in the church hall on Saturday, November 26 from 9.30am to 3pm. The stalls will include toys and games, home-made jams and preserves, home baking, Christmas gifts, sweets, chocolates and jewellery. There will also be a café open all day for refreshments and midday meals. Admission is free.

GRANT: Anyone aged over 70 and who has lived the urban district of Horbury for ten years are invited to apply for a Christmas grant from the Horbury Common Lands Trust. Application forms are available from the Black Olive and Jule Health, both on Queen Street and need to be returned on or before November 26. PACT: The local priority meeting between residents and our neighbourhood police team was held last Thursday in the library. Our NPT has finally taken receipt of a fully calibrated speed gun and PC Withington will be using it around Horbury from now on. It was reported that one of the main ringleaders causing a nuisance was arrested last week for criminal damage and harassment. The NPT will strive to have a greater presence in the Manorfield and Green Park Avenue area. The next meeting will be on Thursday, December 15 at 7pm.
