HALL GREEN UNITED: This Saturday Hall Green United are at home to Bradford side Campion FC in the West Riding County Amateur Premier Division, 2pm kick off. The reserve side are away at Shafton Villa FC in the quarter final of the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Cup, 1pm kick off.

NEW LIFE COMMUNITY CHURCH: New Life Community Church, at the Kettlethorpe Community Centre continues to go from strength to strength after a tremendous carol service last month. The new church has a dynamic mixture of young and old and is a lively expression of today’s church. Sunday, January 15, sees a mixture of true life stories, dance from the Revolution Youth Group, magic once again from Jonathan Robinson and live music from the New Life worship team. The church currently meets once a month from 5pm to 6pm and is part of the New Life Christian Centre, George Street in Wakefield. For further details, contact Kevin Foster on 07735 978707.

STANDBRIDGE LANE COMMUNITY TRUST: All Kettlethorpe residents are invited to attend the trust’s annual meeting on Tuesday, January 17 at 6.30pm in Kettlethorpe Community Centre, Standbridge Lane to hear the latest news and progress it has made in the proposed lease of the former Standbridge Lane School from Wakefield Council. Trust chairman Coun David Hopkins is particularly interested to welcome anyone who wishes to give some time or expertise, helping the trust to make further progress, ensuring that this exciting project is on course to provide Kettlethorpe with a much-needed centre that will be owned by and cater for the whole community. Any Kettlethorpe resident can become a member of the trust.

KETTLETHORPE TENANTS: The date and time of the next meeting of Kettlethorpe Tenants’ and Residents’ is Wednesday, January 25 at 6.30pm in the back room of the community centre.

 

ST JOHN’S CALDER GROVE: The Rev Canon Ian Gaskell was the celebrant and preacher for the feast of epiphany at St John’s Church, Calder Grove last Sunday.

RESURFACING: Crigglestone Parish Council was pleased to hear that following a meeting with Yorkshire Water the forecourt drain had been cleared and the resurfacing work outside Hall Green Community Centre, previously agreed, can now go ahead.

PEDESTRIAN CROSSING: Following an inquiry from Crigglestone Parish Council regarding the possibility of a pedestrian crossing at Calder Grove, Wakefield Council officers carried out a survey of vehicles and pedestrians near the post office. The results of the survey were well below the levels which would qualify for a crossing so members were informed that the request could not be supported.

SPECTACLES FOUND: Kettlethorpe Library have a pair of spectacles which were found on Standbridge Lane. Please get in touch with them if you think they are yours, telephone 01924 303375.

COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTRE: Kettlethorpe High School Community Learning Centre is now enrolling for adult education courses.
