COFFEE MORNING: West Wakefield Methodist Church, Thornes Road is holding a coffee morning tomorrow from 10am to 11.30am in aid of its chosen charity for the year, Sierra Link, which supports Methodist schools in Sierra Leone. Coffee and biscuits cost 75p. As well as the cake and provisions stall there will be bacon butties available for just £1. Please support this if you are able.

LUNCH CLUB: You can get a home-cooked, three-course meal at St George’s Centre, Lupset, today at noon. The club is open to all, no booking necessary.

ST GEORGE’S CENTRE: A slimming club will start at St George’s Centre on Tuesday, January 10 from 10am to 11.30am. You will need to book in advance. Please call Sheena on 369631 to reserve your place.

CYCLING FOR FUN: Cycling sessions are now held at Thornes Park Athletic Stadium on Mondays from 10am to 11.45am and Thursdays from 9.30am to 10.30am for adults unable to use conventional two-wheeled bikes. Specially adapted cycles, trikes and quads are available. For more information contact Sheena at St George’s Community Centre on 369631. Sessions cost £2.70.

COURSES AT ST GEORGE’S: Courses have been organised in floristry, embroidery and beaded treasures, introduction to beauty therapy, and Word Conversion 2010. A one day information and guidance workshop will be held on Thursday, January 12 from 9am to noon. The centre will also be offering a free, six weeks’ job seeking course, starting Thursday, January 19 ending with a basic food hygiene course. WEST WAKEFIELD METHODIST CHURCH: The covenant service will be on Sunday at 10am with Rev Tony Walton, followed by lunch. At 6pm the preacher is Rev Barry Lotz of Normanton. Messy Church meets on Tuesday at 3.30pm for families. Lionel Garrett from Wakefield Movie Makers will be the speaker at the ladies’ group at 7.30pm. The social committee will meet on Thursday at 7pm to plan future events.
