FILM CLUB: Tonight, the monthly film club at St Peter’s Church Centre on Lake Lock Road will be showing the romantic comedy 50 First Dates. Doors open 7pm, film starts at 7.30pm; free admission and tea and coffee; bring your own popcorn!
COFFEE MORNING: Tomorrow, St Peter’s Church coffee morning will be held at Stanley Community Centre, from 10am to noon, with an excellent cake stall, tombola, raffle, greetings cards and refreshments.
MOUNT ROAD CHAPEL: Tomorrow, there will be a Christmas fair at the chapel from 11am to 3pm with light lunches, cakes, craft stall, tombola and more. The speaker at the 10.30am service this Sunday, November 13 will be Rev A Jones.
BEETLE DRIVE: Tomorrow evening at 7pm, there will be a beetle drive at Lofthouse Methodist Church. Tickets cost £3 for adults and £2 for children, to include light refreshments.
ST PETER’S CHURCH CENTRE: The 10am service at St Peter’s Church Centre this Sunday, November 13, will be a special Remembrance Sunday service with the uniformed organisations.
FRIENDS OF STANLEY MARSH: On Monday, November 14 at 7pm, the Friends of Stanley Marsh will meet in the rangers’ hut in the car park off Lime Pit Lane, where they will be joined by local historian, Kate Taylor, who will be talking about The making of Wakefield in the 19th Century. PRAYER 4 STANLEY: Next week, Stanley Methodist Church and St Peter’s Church Centre will be delivering prayer cards to and praying for Millcroft and Millcroft Rise.
GOOD COMPANIONS: All the members enjoyed pie amd peas and parkin and toffee last Thursday night. The bingo winners were M Bell, B Wilson, I Morris, O Thackray, C Macfarlane, E Parkin, K Watkins, D Highley and M Schofield. The members’ draw was won by J Dixon, M Greenwood and K Watkins, and the meat raffle was won by D Highley and M Wright.
VICTORIAN FAIR: St Peter’s Church’s annual Victorian fair will be held next Saturday, November 19 at Stanley Community Centre from 10am to 12:30pm. There will be lots of stalls including cakes, toys, jewellery, tombola, greetings cards, and crafts, as well as various refreshments.
NOSTALGIC WALK: On Saturday, November 19 everyone is invited to join the Outwood Community Video Group on a nostalgic walk of the colliery site, lasting about two hours, and beginning in the car park near the southbound platform of Outwood station at 10.30am.
PANTOMIME TIME: This year, St Peter’s Church family pantomime is Sinbad and the Magic Jewel. Matinees are 3.30pm on Sunday, November 27 and Saturday December 3; evening performances are 7.15pm on Monday 28, Tuesday 29, Thursday December 1, Friday 2, and Saturday 3. All performances are at St Peter’s Church Centre. Tickets are £5 adult, £4 concessions, and £15 family. LOFTHOUSE METHODIST CHURCH: There will be a Christmas fair and gift day at Lofthouse Methodist Church on Saturday, November 26 from 2.30pm, with various stalls and a buffet tea. The Lofthouse 2000 Band will be performing during the afternoon. The next day, on Sunday, November 27, there will be a church anniversary service at 10.30am led by Rev Trevor Grewcock.
