ST JAMES’ CHURCH: A strawberry tea takes place on Saturday at St James’ Church, from 2pm to 4pm, with sandwiches, cakes, teas and coffees, price £5. On Tuesday there will be a night of nostalgia in the St James’ Centre, with male vocal duo the High Rollers. Tickets, at £6, are limited and include a buffet supper. The evening starts at 7pm,.

CONNEXIONS: Young people in the Havercroft and Ryhill area are able to access careers help via the local Connexions service. If you are unemployed aged 16 - 19 (up to 25 if you have a learning difficulty or a disability) and looking for work or training then Connexions can help you with work, education and training. DARBY AND JOAN: Havercroft and Ryhill Darby and Joan celebrated its ninth anniversary this week, with live entertainment from Paul Somers. This was followed by the raffle, with a prize draw. Darby and Joan starts at 2pm to 4.45pm every Tuesday.

WALTON METHODIST CHURCH: The Preacher on Sunday at 10.30am is Pamela Burgess. Open door coffee morning is from 10am to 11.30am on Tuesday, and craft class is from 9.30am to noon on Wednesday.

LIFEBOATS: Walton Branch RNLI holds an afternoon tea on Thursday, August 18, from 3pm to 4.30pm. A buffet tea will be served. There will also be souvenirs, handmade cards and a raffle. Tickets are £3.50. Contact Anne on 01924 257458.

WALTON WARRIORS: Walton played its best rugby of the season so far, with a well-earned second win against Barnsley Broncos Saturday before last. The next match is to be confirmed as of going to press.

MUSIC CLASSES: Music for Minors offers fun, musical classes for children at Walton Village Hall. Classes are on Saturdays for children aged one to five. Sessions are £4.50.
