STANLEY METHODISTS: The service at 10.30am this Sunday, July 31 will be led by the Rev Tony Jones. Wednesday, August 3 there will be a coffee and cake meeting from 2pm.

CAR BOOT SALE: Wakefield Chantry Rotary Club holds a car boot sale at Kingsland School on Aberford Road on Sunday, August 7, from 7am to noon. Pitches cost £10 per vehicle and all money raised from the sale of pitches will benefit Rotary charities.

STANLEY LIBRARY: Every Thursday at 10am during the summer holidays, Stanley Library is holding a Wii Fit summer challenge. Contact the library to book your family’s fun session on the Wii. Or, take part in this summer’s reading challenge circus stars and see how many books you can read during the holidays.

FREE SUMMER COOKING CLUB: The Generation Xchange Project is running a healthy eating cooking club for children to attend with grandparents or family members over 50, at Stanley Community Centre on Monday, August 1, August 8, August 15 and August 22, from 10am-12.30pm. GOOD COMPANIONS: Last week, everyone celebrated J Farrar’s 90th birthday with a fishcake supper and birthday cake. Bingo winners were J Dixon, I Luford, B Robinson, M Wright, D Needham, S Parkin, I Morris, I Lane and B Beckett. The members’ draw was won by H Reynolds, C Macfarlane and O Thackray and the meat raffle was won by O Thackray and P Allsop.

PRAYER 4 STANLEY: Next week, Stanley Methodist Church and St Peter’s Church Centre will be delivering prayer cards to and praying for Moorhouse View and Moorhouse Terrace. SAPPHIRE SUPREMES FUN DAY: The Sapphire Supremes Majorettes are holding a family fun day on Sunday, August 7 at Stanley Rodillians Rugby Club from noon to 4.30pm. Stalls include bottle tombola, raffle, hook a duck, cakes, sweets and bouncy castle. There will be a barbecue selling the Sapphire Supremes Sausage, made by Howgate & Farrar butchers, and lots of majorette performances throughout the day.

POCKET PANTO 1940S SHOW: A 1940s event will be taking place on Thursday, August 25 from 1pm at the community centre. Performed by Pocket Panto, the event will help celebrate the 21st anniversary of the Wheelers and Wobblers Social Club. Tickets £5, including pie and peas and are available from Janice on 01924 826412 (after 5pm).
