FREE FILM CLUB: Tonight, the monthly film club at St Peter’s Church Centre, Lake Lock Road, will show The French Lieutenant’s Woman starring Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons. Doors open 7pm, film starts at 7.30pm; free admission, tea and coffee; bring your own popcorn.
COFFEE MORNING: Tomorrow, St Peter’s Church monthly coffee morning will be held from 10am to noon, at Stanley Community Centre with a cake stall, tombola, raffle, greetings cards and refreshments.
ST PETER’S SINGING GROUP: The singing group for older people meets from 1pm every Monday afternoon at St Peter’s Church Centre. No previous experience is required. Singing is from 1.30pm-2.30pm with time for refreshments and chat before and afterwards.
STANLEY METHODISTS: On Wednesday, September 14 from 1.30pm, there will be a jumble sale at the chapel with cakes, tombola and various other stalls. Donations of jumble always welcome.
ALPHA COURSE: Zion Church on Aberford Road will run an Alpha course starting on Wednesday, September 14. Sessions start each week at 7.15pm with a meal. CHILDREN’S CENTRE: A maths is magic course runs every Wednesday from 1.15pm to 3.15pm, and an English course starts on Thursday, September 15 from 9.15am to 11.15am. Contact the centre on 01924 303181 for more information.
SCARECROW FESTIVAL: Scarecrows can be displayed outside your home, school or business from today, with the festival taking place on Saturday, September 17 from 1pm to 3pm at Stanley playground. On the day of the festival, there will also be fairground rides, music and refreshments, as well as prizes for the scarecrows voted best in their category.
KNIT AND NATTER: Knit and natter, sew and chatter! Enjoy a cuppa, company and a crafty afternoon every Thursday afternoon at St Peter’s Church Centre on Lake Lock Road from 1pm to 3pm.
MOORHOUSE FUN DAY: Thanks to everyone who attended the fun day on Saturday, August 20, it was a huge success. Thanks to everyone from the estate and businesses who donated items, and to WDH and local councillors for their support. GOOD COMPANIONS: All members enjoyed a buffet and free bar last Thursday night. Bingo winners were B Robinson, J Dixon, J Farrar, D Dawson, I Lane, I Morris and M Wright. The members’ draw was won by E Parkin, R Robertshaw and M Bell, and the meat raffle was won by I Lane and S Parkin.
