People across the district have rallied round to help raise cash to provide treatment for an abandoned pony that was covered in oil and set on fire.

More than £780 has been raised for Hope the pony after she was found with severe burns and tied to a tree in Kirkthorpe last week.

Her rescuer, Steph Broadhead, who is keeping Hope in the Ackworth area, set up a Facebook page to help raise funds for the care the pony will need.

Mrs Broadhead said: “The generosity and support we have received has been amazing.

“We never expected it but we can’t thank people enough it’s made such a difference.

“Hope is improving every day and her burns are healing nicely.

“She’s a completely different horse to the one I rescued last week.

“She’s absolutely beautiful and gaining confidence all the time.

“She was very malnourished when we got her but she’s put lots of weight on.

“We’re hoping to organise a day where people can come and meet her and see what a difference they have made.”
