People will rally round to clean up the Eastmoor estate at a special event next weekend.

Council, police, fire and housing officers will host a Love Where You Live event in the southern washlands area on Saturday, June 1.

It will include a community litter pick and the opportunity for people to speak to service providers.

Coun Maureen Cummings, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for environment and communities, said: “The event provides a great opportunity for residents in the community to interact with the Wakefield Together Partnership and gain valuable information on their area.

“The Love Where You Live campaign encourages residents to improve their local environment and have pride in their community. So please come and join us – everyone is welcome.”

The event takes place in the playing fields off Garden Terrace from 9.30am until 1pm, at Harrisons Bridge at the end of Park Lodge Lane.

As part of the ‘Big Lunch’ celebrations, all those taking part are invited to enjoy some free refreshments after the event.

To give an indication of numbers, people who would like refreshments should contact 01924 303985 or email countrysideinterp@wakefield.gov.uk before the event.
