A MAN has been accused of running a brothel and possessing nearly £200,000 of criminal property.

Prosecutors claim Springfield Sauna on Spa Street, Ossett, was run as a brothel in a professional operation for more than seven years.

It is alleged Kevin Wrigglesworth, 46, operated it. He is charged with six offences of controlling prostitution for gain between 2004 and 2009.

He also faces three charges of knowingly living wholly or in part on the earnings of prostitution between 2002 and 2004.

He is further charged with acquiring, using or possession criminal property, namely £194,708.

Prosecutor Richard Hebbert alleged the business had a total turnover of nearly £200,000. The sauna shut in 2009.

Wrigglesworth, of Ridings Way, Lofthouse, is also accused of possessing cannabis.

He appeared at Wakefield Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday but did not enter any pleas.

Magistrate Sally Clamp ruled the case should eventually be heard at Leeds Crown Court.

The case was adjourned until December 6, when it is expected a committal hearing will take place.

Mrs Clamp, extending Wrigglesworth’s unconditional bail, said: “You will need to come back in eight weeks’ time.

“We are hoping all the paperwork will be in order so you can be formally committed to the Crown Court at Leeds.”
