A car ploughed through the wall of a funeral parlour and damaged its sign before speeding off.

The incident happened at Wakefield Funeral Services in Horbury Road at around 5.30am on Tuesday.

Police are now hunting the motorist who damaged the sign and left the pole at a 50 degree angle.

Funeral arranger David Whitworth said: “We were all a little shocked when the police called to say the wall had been demolished.

“The wall is around 3ft high and just to the side of the building so thankfully the building was not damaged.

“It appears that the driver just drove off.”

The funeral parlour removed the sign over fears it had become a safety hazard.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said enquiries were ongoing and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

It is unknown what vehicle the motorist was driving or which direction the driver headed towards. Anyone with any information should contact the police on 101.
