A gang of teenagers left a man with serious injuries after carrying out a “vicious and cowardly” attack last night.
Detectives said the 29-year-old victim was driving along Barnsley Road, in Ackworth, and slowed his vehicle down after the teenagers stepped into the road.
He was then verbally abused before he was attacked.
The victim, from Ponetfract, suffered a broken jaw during the assault.
Det Sgt David Rogerson, from Wakefield CID, said: “This was a vicious and cowardly assault by a group of individuals on one man that has left the victim with a significant injury which will require surgery.
“The suspects, who fled the area on foot, are all believed to be white males who are thought to be around 16 to 17 years of age.
“I would appeal to local people in Ackworth to contact police with any information they have about this incident. If anyone has any suspicions about those involved or may have been affected by any similar incident last night I would urge them to contact officers.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact DS Rogerson at Wakefield CID on 101, quoting 13140428476.
