A gunman opened fire in Stanley last night.
Armed police were called to Anahmeim Drive, shortly after 7pm on Thursday, after they received reports of shots being fired.
They sealed off an area around a footpath while they began hunting the gunman.
Police failed to find any suspects, but did find a number of blank cartridge shell casings.
Insp Mark Chamberlain, of the North West neighbourhood police team (NPT), said: “I would like to reassure residents that extensive enquiries are being made to identify the person responsible.
“This is an isolated incident and no-one has been harmed, however I understand that any offences involving firearms are likely to cause some concern in the community.
“My officers will be carrying out additional patrols in the area and I would urge anyone with such concerns to stop and talk to one of the neighbourhood officers.”
Anyone with any information should contact Wakefield CID on 101.
