A teenager who was left fighting for his life after an accident involving a suspected stolen moped is now in a stable condition.
The 18-year-old was one of two teenagers riding on the scooter, and was found unconscious on the road after coming off it.
He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary. Police said this week he was in a stable condition.
The incident happened on Broadway, at the junction of St George’s Road, Lupset, at 9pm on Tuesday of last week.
The other man who had been on the scooter fled but was soon arrested on suspicion of being over the prescribed limit and aggravated vehicle taking. He was taken to Pinderfields Hospital with minor injuries.
Insp Jeffrey Dulson, of Wakefield Police, said: “I would urge anyone who either witnessed the incident or saw a silver moped before the incident and can provide information about the rider, or the manner in which the moped was being ridden, to contact police on 101.”
