A prisoner accused of wounding child killer Mark Bridger in Wakefield prison has appeared in court today (Wednesday).
Juvinai Ferreira, 22, is charged with wounding Bridger, 47, with intent to do him grievous bodily harm on Sunday, July 7.
The alleged attack happened in Wakefield Jail just two months into Bridger’s life sentence for abducting and murdering April Jones, five, in Machynlleth, Wales last October.
Bridger, 47, was taken to hospital following the alleged prison assault. It is understood he had been slashed across the face.
Ferreira appeared via video link from Wakefield Jail to the city’s magistrates court this morning to face the charge.
But District Judge Marie Mallon told him the seriousness of the charge meant the case could only be dealt with at Crown Court.
She remanded Ferreira in custody until September 11 when he faces a preliminary hearing at Leeds Crown Court.
