A 30-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death of 69-year-old Huddersfield man Adrian Smith,

Mr Smith, 69, died of his injuries in a hospital following an assault in central Huddersfield on Wednesday night.

Jacob Crawshaw, of Emscote Avenue, Halifax, is due to appear at Bradford Magistrates this morning (Saturday) charged with the manslaughter of Mr Smith.

A 23-year-old man, who was arrested in connection with the incident, has been released from police custody with no further action.

Officers had been called to New Street, Huddersfield at 11.12pm on Wednesday following reports of an assault.

Mr Smith sadly died of his injuries in Leeds General Infirmary on Friday.
