Police are appealing for a man who warned arson victims that their Castleford house was on fire to come forward.
A 37-year-old man has already been charged with the attack, which allegedly took place at an address in Pine Close at 10.15pm on Wednesday, May 6.
But police are trying to trace the man who was walking past the house at the time and alerted the occupants to the fire, which they were able to put out.
Detective Inspector Tim Hunt, from Wakefield District CID said, “The man left the area in the direction of Airedale before he could be thanked. A 37-year-old man has been charged with this offence and is currently on remand, but we would still like the good Samaritan to come forward as he may have further information that could help us with this investigation.
“I would urge this good Samaritan, or anyone with any information about the arson attack, to contact the Police on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555 111”.
