Thieves stole money from four unlocked vehicles in Thornes.

The thieves struck on Thornes Moor Road and Troon Way, on Sunday morning.

Officers from the central neighbourhood police team (NPT) have increased patrols in the area and Sgt Mark Beet is reminding drivers to make sure they lock their cars.

He said: “We are working extremely hard to target the offenders who are committing these offences, however, we also need the assistance of the public.

“By taking a few simple steps to ensure your vehicle is fully secure, it can have an immediate impact.

“Sometimes drivers quickly hit their remote locking system and assume it has worked. Just double check to see if it has locked.

“It is also vital that people remember to remove any items from view, so you are not advertising them to others.

“Leaving your satellite navigation systems on show, for instance, can encourage a criminal to target your vehicle.

“Even the sign of owning one can be all it takes to become a victim. Don’t forget to take out sat-nav cradles and wipe away any suction marks.

“For the minimum amount of effort, you can save yourself from the maximum heartache and expense. I would therefore call on people to take on board the advice and educate others around them.”

Anyone with any information to the thefts should contact police on 101.
