Thieves cut through wires on a burglar alarm before stealing £5,000 cash and diagnostic equipment from a city centre car garage.
Specialist diagnostic machines worth more than £3,000 were stolen in a raid at Westgate Autos, Milton Street, on Tuesday, September 9.
Cash totalling £5,000 was also taken from the garage’s safe during the raid.
Richard Wakefield, garage owner, said: “The break-in has had a massive effect on the business.
“It’s devastating but our customers and suppliers have stood by us.
“Just before 10pm on Monday, September 8, they cut through the burglar alarm and telephone wires and went away.
“Then they came back at about 1am and smashed the front door in and carried out the raid.”
Mr Wakefield, 48, said a Snap-On ETHOS and a Launch X431 diagnostic machine, valued at around £1,500 each were taken in the raid.
A £250 decelerometer machine – used to test vehicle brakes – was also stolen.
Mr Wakefield, who has been at the Milton Street site for six months, added: “We’ve had to buy new equipment which has obviously had an effect.”
DC Aidy Cowan, of Wakefield CID, said: “I would like to appeal for anyone with any information to contact me on 101.”
