A DAD from Wakefield has been sentenced to death by firing squad in Indonesia.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has confirmed that roofer Gareth Cashmore, who was arrested a year ago accused of drug smuggling, is facing the death penalty.
Mr Cashmore, 33, was originally sentenced to life imprisonment but it emerged on Friday that judges had raised the penalty to death at an appeal hearing in May.
The FCO said an appeal lodged by dad-of-one Mr Cashmore was due to be heard by judges.
An FCO spokesman said: “We are continuing to provide consular assistance to Gareth Cashmore, who is facing the death penalty in Indonesia, and his family.
“We are aware that Gareth’s appeal is due to be heard by the Supreme Court in Indonesia and will continue to monitor the situation.”
