FESTIVE figures raced around a country park as a Christmas gift to suffering families across the city.
A squad of 250 people took part in Wakefield Hospice’s annual Santa Dash at Pugneys on Sunday morning. They raced in fancy dress, ranging from Santas and elves to Christmas puddings, around the lake to raise more than £3,000 to keep the Aberford Road hospice running on Christmas Day.
Event fundraiser Fiona Day said this year’s event was the biggest ever and had already raised more than £2,000. She said: “It was great to see so many people taking part. “We have still got sponsorship money to come in and it is looking to have been a great success.
“The funds will go towards staffing the Hospice on Christmas Day so this is a fantastic present to all our patients and their families.”
