And it was built on the site of the former library just off Hill Top.

The store has created 30 full and part-time jobs and opened its doors on Thursday.

Lidl's regional head of property Graham Burr said: "Our first day of trading has already been a huge success.

"We were so pleased to see over 50 people queuing before the opening at 8am and we would like to extend a special thanks to Mayor of Wakefield June Cliffe who cut the ribbon to our store. We hope to see many more of the local community soon."
