Motorists face long delays after a road was closed because of an accident involving a pedestrian.

Police were called to Doncaster Road at 13.11 this afternoon (Wednesday) after reports of a collision between a pedestrian, believed to be a female, and a vehicle.

A police spokesperson said the pedestrian was taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

Officers have closed the road in Wakefield in both directions between Sugar Lane junction and Denmark Street junction.

Wakefield Central neighbourhood police team (NPT) tweeted: “Please note that officers are dealing with an incident on Doncaster Road, due to this the road is closed.

“The traffic is building up so please avoid the area if you can. The road will be re-opened as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
