Former Eastenders actor Ace Bhatti has become a patron of Theatre Royal Wakefield.

Mr Bhatti played the evil doctor Yusef Khan in the BBC soap, and recently took to the stage in the city when he starred in John Godber’s Bouncers.

He said: “I am delighted to be involved with Theatre Royal Wakefield in this way. I believe strongly in the significance of regional theatre like that produced at Theatre Royal Wakefield, and particularly look forward to meeting and engaging with young people from around the district through the theatre’s new and existing youth projects.”

The actor trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. His stage, screen and television experience also includes work on The Shadow Line and Bend it Like Beckham.

Kate Ainsworth, head of development at the theatre, said: “We are very pleased that Ace will be joining us as a patron, and are excited to work closely together with him in the future. We know that he will be a great ambassador for Theatre Royal Wakefield and the work we do here.”
