A children’s holiday activity programme run by volunteers in Eastmoor will close unless funding is found soon.
Get Eastmoor Moving (GEM), based at St Swithun’s Community Centre, provides activities for young children who might not otherwise have a holiday experience.
The programme, which has run for the past ten years, needs at least £5,000 a year to keep going.
In 2011 GEM received three years of funding from Children In Need, which enabled the programme to develop, but this funding pot has now run out and unless another source is found its future remains uncertain.
During this summer volunteers have helped more than 45 youngsters, aged six to 11, escape the boredom of the long summer holidays and given them the opportunity to take part in a range of fun and educational workshops .
Maureen Rishworth, programme coordinator, said: “We have realised that there is a great need for this service in this area and we desperately want to keep this vital service going.
“We want to expand and cater for a wider variety of age groups and have a more secure future.
“Sourcing funding becomes more of a challenge with each passing year.
“If funding isn’t found we wont be able to continue.”
