Students and teachers will have their eyes glued to their television screens this weekend as a teenager hopes to win a professional record deal on a talent show.

Cathedral Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA) student Frances Wood, 18, has won through to the next round of BBC One’s The Voice.

Tomorrow night she is set to battle it out against other contestants in a head to head sing-off to impress coaches Tom Jones, Jessie J, Will.i.am and Danny O’Donoghue.

During the next few weeks only 20 acts will make it through to the live shows, when it will be up to the public to vote for their favourite singer.

Frances of Barnes Avenue, Wrenthorpe, is being coached by Black Eyed Peas rapper Will.i.am.
