Flawless are living the dream in new show

AFTER wowing the nation two years ago by reaching the final of Britain’s Got Talent, street-dance sensation Flawless are returning to a stage near you.

The award-winning dance troupe, once described by Simon Cowell as “one of the greatest acts I have ever seen in my life,” will be bringing their innovative jive-jumping to West Yorkshire Playhouse in March, with a show that has choreographer, Marlon Wallen, excited.

He told The Guide: “When you normally see Flawless you see hardcore street dance. It’s full of flips and acrobatics and fun music that you want to dance to.

“But it doesn’t represent what we can do for a long period of time. You can’t get any better than doing a full show. And we’ve never been to West Yorkshire, so we are excited about that.”

Chasing the Dream promises to deliver every aspect of modern dance, including hip-hop, contemporary jazz and even ballet.

Marlon, who began dancing to Michael Jackson videos aged four, is quick to credit their BGT success with giving him the freedom to move on to bigger and better things.

He said: “It was a way for us to expose street dance and to get it out there. It gave us great recognition.

“From there we went onto do Street Dance 3D which was the biggest highlight of our career- it was just emotional. It was like ‘wow’ seeing our name on the credits.

“Then we sold out a run of Chasing the Dream at Edinburgh Fringe Festival performing for a whole month, which we won best show for. It’s been amazing experience.”

Marlon, 26, said Chasing the Dream is an “inspirational” story based on someone chasing their dreams and going through a negative environment but finding there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

He said: “When people come to see it they feel they have been given a show that has a positive message: ‘I want to chase my dream’.

“Whether that’s as a dancer or a lawyer, the show is all about the people as opposed to a show about Flawless. With Chasing the Dream you get the best bits of Flawless and get to see something that takes you on an emotional rollercoaster.”

Flawless hope to take the show to Europe and star in the Street Dance sequel.

Chasing the Dream is at West Yorkshire Playhouse on March 15 and 16. Tickets are available from the box office on www.wyp.org.uk or 0113 213 7700.
