Fundraising events to be held in memory of much missed postman Paddy

Charity events have been organised in memory of a much-loved dad and postman who died suddenly.

Friends and colleagues of Patrick ‘Paddy’ Painter will hold a golf tournament at Waterton Park Golf Club on Tuesday, June 13, in honour of Mr Painter.

It will be followed by a football tournament at Slazenger’s in Horbury on Saturday, June 17.

A ride out by scooter enthusiasts will also be held from the King’s Arms in Horbury to the match.

That will be followed by an evening fundraiser at Henry Boon’s, on Westgate, Wakefield from 7pm.

Cash will be raised for Wakefield Hospice at the events.

Tributes were paid last October after Royal Mail employee Mr Painter died aged 50.

Mod music fan Mr Painter was a founding member of the Kings Arms Scooter Club, in Horbury, and was a member of Waterton Park Golf Club. He was also a postman for almost 30 years and well known on his Carr Gate post round.

His friend Mark Hargreaves, who has helped organise the events, said: “It is all in tribute to him.

“Everybody is giving their time and effort for free.”
