BRIGHTEN up your bike or create your own kart for the city’s first ever Wacky Races.

The event is being organised by Wakefield Hospice as part of its re-vamped annual cycling competition at Nostell Priory on Sunday.

As well as having the chance to ride one of three routes across the city, fundraisers will be able to ride around the National Trust site on their custom-made, non-motorised contraptions.

Treacle, the hospice’s new mascot, will be out and about this week to get people signing up for the event.

Treacle will be at Cannon Hall Farm today (Tuesday), Pugneys Country Park tomorrow (Wednesday) and at Blacker Hall Farm, Calder Grove, on Friday and Saturday.

The event, sponsored by Wakefield Cycles on Westgate, takes place from 9.30am on Sunday, August 5, and includes an 11-mile, 20-mile and 38-mile route from the Nostell estate.
