A NEW city centre barber shop has offered blokes all the help they need in growing a Movember charity moustache.

Urban Quarter, on Wood Street, will run a competition for the best moustache, and will give customers a clean shave and take a photo to get their campaign underway.

They will also donate £1 from every shave in November to Wakefield Hospice.

Owner Jake Winfield, 23, said he hoped it would encourage people to support the Movember charity, which supports prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.

He said: “Hopefully we will see some great ‘taches and support good causes.”

The shop also sells clothes made by local, independent designers on an upper floor, and Mr Winfield said he soon wanted to promote music by local bands.

He wants the shop, with a traditional but modern American style, to become a part of Wakefield nightlife.

He said: “We’ll be opening late on weekends. I wanted to try and create something a bit different and bring some life back into Wakefield, so that people don’t feel they have to go elsewhere.”
